Tallis-Tudor Double-header
One of the annual joys of the early-music calendar is the July workshop with members of Peter Phillips’ Tallis Scholars. Hosted by Doug Fullington’s crackerjack local professional ensemble the Tudor Choir, the workshop give serious singers, professional and otherwise, a chance to refine their ensemble technique and deepen their familiarity with the German and Flemish choral repertory of the High Renaissance. The coaches are world-class: Phillips himself, plus scholars David Woodcock, Janet Coxwell, and Deborah Roberts. The three join the Tudor ensemble in the gala opening concert of music by Flemish and German masters by the Choir on Sunday July 25th; workshop participants show what they’ve learned in a second full program the following Friday.
Both concerts at St. James Cathedral, 804 Ninth Ave.
